The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed an Atascadero teen Friday.
CHP says a sheriff's unit noticed the crash shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Templeton Road just north of Highway 41 and requested assistance.
The 17-year-old driver was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The CHP says it appears she was driving approximately 55 mph south on Templeton Road when, for unknown reasons, she crossed over the double yellow lines near a curve and hit a tree.
It does not appear drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, according to CHP, which reports she was not wearing a seat belt.
Her name has not yet been released.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Templeton CHP office at (805) 434-1822.
